How Calculations are Made
The IELTS overall score is calculated by averaging the scores from four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each section is scored on a band scale from 0 to 9. The overall score is rounded to the nearest half band, meaning scores can be reported in increments of 0.5 (e.g., 6.0, 6.5, or 7.0). For example:
- If the average is 6.5, the overall score remains 6.5 (no rounding needed).
- If the average is 6.25, the overall score is rounded up to 6.5.
- If the average is 6.125, the overall score is rounded down to 6.0.
