The influence of teachers and parents on children’s intellectual and social development is a topic of significant debate. While both play crucial roles, I agree that once children start school, teachers have a more substantial influence on their development.

Firstly, teachers are trained professionals who understand the intellectual needs of children at different stages of their growth. They are equipped with the skills to foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. In a structured school environment, children are exposed to a wide range of subjects and ideas that challenge their minds and expand their knowledge base. This exposure is vital for intellectual growth and often surpasses what parents can provide at home.

Secondly, schools are social environments where children interact with peers from diverse backgrounds. Teachers guide these interactions, helping students develop social skills such as teamwork, communication, and empathy. Through group activities and collaborative projects, children learn to work with others, which is a key aspect of social development. While parents lay the foundation for social behavior, teachers refine these skills in a more complex social setting.

However, it is important to acknowledge that parents continue to play a crucial role in shaping their children’s values, attitudes, and behaviors. The home environment provides the emotional support that complements the academic and social learning at school. Yet, the daily and consistent interaction with teachers during school hours means that teachers have a more direct impact on children’s intellectual and social development.

In conclusion, while parental influence is undeniable, I believe that once children start school, teachers have a greater influence on their intellectual and social development due to their expertise and the structured environment they provide.
