This is a “Discuss Both Views and Give Your Opinion” type of IELTS Writing Task 2, and asks us to talk about two different views: whether parents should be responsible for getting their kids to school or if that’s something the government should take care of. We also need to share our own opinion at the end.
We can still use a balanced strategy to reply this task. Both sides make sense, and there are good reasons to support each one. For example, parents are naturally responsible for their children, but governments also have a role in providing public services like school transport. In the essay, we can explain one side in the first body paragraph and the other side in the second. Then, wrap it up by saying both are important and need to work together. This way, the essay will cover all the points clearly and stay easy to follow.

It is believed by some that parents should be in charge of getting their kids to school, while others think the government should handle this responsibility. Though each point of view has merit, the best solution might be a cooperative effort.
On the one hand, many argue that parents should take responsibility for transporting their children. Parents know their children’s needs best and can ensure they travel safely. For instance, driving children to school or arranging shared rides gives parents control over timing and safety, ensuring that children are on time and comfortable. Moreover, taking responsibility for transportation teaches children to value family efforts in supporting their education, as they see firsthand the commitment their parents make. This role also fosters a closer parent-child bond as they spend more time together during the commute. For example, parents can use the time to talk about their children’s school day or provide encouragement, which strengthens their relationship and builds trust.
On the other hand, the government providing school transport services can benefit families and society in many ways. Many parents, especially working ones, face challenges in managing drop-offs and pick-ups due to their busy schedules. Public transport, school buses, or other government-supported options can ease this burden and ensure that children get to school on time without disrupting their parents’ routines. Additionally, public systems reduce traffic congestion and pollution caused by private vehicles. For instance, in areas where government-provided school buses are common, roads around schools are often less crowded, creating a safer environment for students. Furthermore, government involvement ensures equal access to transportation for all families, including those in rural areas or with limited financial resources, supporting educational equity.
To sum up, both parents and the government play essential roles in ensuring children get to school. A balanced approach, where parents and the government share responsibility, may ultimately be the most practical and effective solution.
