Writing Task
Some people believe that the increasing business and cultural exchanges between countries are a positive development. Others argue that such interactions may have a negative impact on cultural identities. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Task Analysis
This task is a Discuss and Give Opinion (D&G) type, and we are required to discuss the topic of globalization and its impact on cultural identities.
Let’s break down the task. We need to explore both viewpoints as the task mentioned — those who think the exchanges between countries are great and those who worry about the impact on cultural identities. We’ll need to think of some solid points for each side.
For the structure of the essay, we stick to our strategy – four paragraphs. Start with a short intro that sets up the topic and states our opinion. Then, output one paragraph to each side of the argument. In the first body paragraph, highlight the benefits of increased exchanges, like better understanding and economic growth. In the second body paragraph, discuss the concerns about losing cultural identities and how globalization might jeopardize local traditions. Finally, make a summary that reinforces our postion and suggests a balanced approach.

The rise in business and cultural interactions between countries is debated, with some seeing benefits and others fearing harm to cultural identities. I am convinced that while there are downsides, the positive aspects outweigh the drawbacks.
Proponents of increased exchanges argue that they could nurture understanding and cooperation among nations. When people from different cultures interact, they learn about each other’s customs and traditions. This can lead to greater tolerance and appreciation for diversity. To take a food festival as an example, it showcases various cuisines and allow people to enjoy dishes from around the world, promoting cultural exchange and bonding. Additionally, businesses that operate internationally create job opportunities and stimulate economic growth, benefiting both local and foreign economies. The communication of ideas and innovations can drive progress and development in various sectors.
However, there are concerns that continuously growing interaction may threaten cultural identities. As global influences spread, traditional customs and languages might fade away. For example, the popularity of Western media can overshadow local traditions, leading to a loss of cultural heritage. Moreover, businesses might prioritize profit over community values, resulting in a uniform culture that lacks distinctiveness. While these concerns are reasonable, it’s better to find a balance. By promoting local traditions alongside global exchanges, societies can enjoy the benefits of both worlds without sacrificing their uniqueness.
In summary, despite the risk of cultural erosion from global exchanges, the significant benefits in terms of understanding and economic prosperity are undeniable. Balancing local heritage with global engagement is crucial for preserving cultural diversity in our interconnected world.
