Some people believe that children should be punished for committing crimes, while others think that parents should bear the responsibility. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.
Task Analysis
This is a “Discuss Both Views and Give Your Opinion” kind of assignment where we have to look at two different angles on who should be held accountable for small offences: the parents or the children. Any side can be supported, but a two-sided plan is simpler than a one-sided in this case. Thus, we will adopt a bit balanced approach and respond to two points and our own in each of the three paragraphs.
We will make the case for holding kids accountable in the first body paragraph in order to develop personal responsibility and deterrence. The second will argue for parental responsibility, highlighting how upbringing effects conduct. In the last paragraph, we make it very evident that parents have a greater portion of the responsibility for the illegal acts, even though both parents and children should be held accountable.
Writing Sample
There are differing views on whether or not parents should be held accountable for the actions of their children. I believe that both children and parents share responsibility, but parents should play a larger role in preventing such behavior.
Supporters of punishing children argue that doing so teaches them accountability and helps deter future wrongdoing. If children face legal consequences for their actions, they may be less likely to repeat the behavior. For instance, minor punishments like community service or counseling can teach children that their actions have consequences. Additionally, holding children accountable might encourage them to learn right from wrong, guiding them towards better behaviour as adults..
However, some people think that parents should be accountable for their children’s criminal behaviour. This viewpoint stems from the idea that parents should set good examples for their children and be in charge of their upbringing. It’s common to assume that a child’s bad behaviour is a reflection of what’s going on at home. For example, if a child is raised in an abusive or neglectful home, this could be the cause of their actions. In these situations, disciplining the parents might make them more aware of their child’s behaviour and improve their methods of raising them.
From my perspective, parents should be primarily responsible for their child’s behavior because they have the most influence over their kids. However, children should not escape the consequences of their actions completely, as they need to learn about personal responsibility. A balanced approach may be the most effective solution in reducing juvenile crime and preventing future incidents.
