10/10: Live Events vs Watching on TV – Which Is Better?

Writing Task

Some people enjoy attending live events, such as concerts or sports games, while others believe that watching them on television is better. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Task Analysis

This task is a “Discuss Both Views and Give Your Opinion” (D&G) type, and asks us to investigate two viewpoints: one that favours going to live events, such as sporting events or concerts, and another that would rather watch same events on television. In addition, we need to present our own standpoint regarding the debate.

Let’s review the writing strategy quickly. Four paragraphs will make up the format of our entire structure, and the two body paragraphs are the key to success. The benefits of going to live events, such as the distinctive ambiance and immersive experience, will be the main topic of the first body paragraph. Convenience, comfort, and accessibility are some of the advantages of viewing events on television that will be discussed in the second body paragraph. Our own opinion will be stated clearly in the both opening and conclusion sections as usual.

While some people think that it is better to watch live events like concerts and sporting events on television, others prefer to attend them in person. In my view, I believe that viewing television has more benefits, particularly in terms of comfort and ease.

Proponents of live performances claim that the atmosphere and excitement cannot be duplicated on a screen. Being surrounded by fellow fans and experiencing the energy of a live crowd intensifies the thrill. For example, the bond between the performer and the crowd during a live show can be strong and unforgettable. In the same way, being present at a live sporting event may immerse spectators in the action as applause and chants add to the mood. These elements foster enduring memories that are challenging to accomplish through watching television.

Nonetheless, many individuals choose to watch events on television because it’s more comfortable and convenient. First of all, it allows people to enjoy the event without worrying about traffic, weather, or crowds from the comfort of their own homes. This is extremely appealing for those who might not live close to event sites or who prefer not to spend time and money on tickets. Additionally, a greater understanding of the action is made possible by the many camera angles, commentary, and quick replays that are frequently provided during televised events. This can enhance the viewing experience, making it more entertaining and educational.

From my perspective, I tend to believe that for the majority of people, watching events on television is the better option. Although the excitement of being at a live event is undeniable, watching TV is a more practical option for frequent entertainment due to its lower cost, ease, and improved viewing quality. People can enjoy the event’s greatest features without having to deal with the inconvenience of physically attending.

  1. This task is actually very similar to several other frequently examined topics, such as:

    – there is no need to travel abroad because one can learn about different places through various forms of media.
    – physical museums are unnecessary since online museums can suffice. etc.

They are all discussing the advantages and disadvantages remotely and physically.
