Introduction:

Rewrite the topic in one sentence:

There is concern about the environmental impact of air travel, with some suggesting that non-essential flights, like those for tourism, should be restricted more than fuel-powered cars.

State your position in one sentence:

Though air travel does contribute to pollution, I believe restrictions should be balanced with practical considerations.

Body Paragraph 1:

T (Topic sentence):

Air travel undeniably has a substantial environmental footprint, largely due to its high fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

E (Explain):

Airplanes emit a significant amount of carbon dioxide, contributing to global warming. Unlike cars, which are gradually transitioning to electric power, the aviation industry still relies heavily on fossil fuels.

E (Example):

For instance, a single long-haul flight can produce more carbon emissions than a year’s worth of driving for the average person.

E (Elaboration):

Given these facts, it is understandable why some advocate for restrictions on unnecessary flights as a means to reduce pollution.

L (We combine L with T in body paragraph 2 to create a smoother transition.)

Body Paragraph 2:

T (Topic sentence):

However, while the environmental impact is significant, there are other factors to consider before imposing such restrictions. Air travel is vital for economic growth and personal convenience, particularly in our interconnected world.

E (Explain):

In fact, tourism, which relies heavily on air travel, supports millions of jobs and is a major contributor to the economies of many countries, especially in developing regions.

E (Example):

For example, small island nations rely heavily on tourism for their GDP, and a significant reduction in flights could devastate their economies.

E (Elaboration):

Moreover, air travel allows people to connect across vast distances, facilitating cultural exchange and global understanding.

L (Link back to thesis):

Thus, any restriction on air travel must be carefully weighed against these benefits.

Conclusion:

Restate position and summarize main points:

To sum up, although air travel impacts the environment, simply restricting non-essential flights isn’t the ideal solution. A better approach is investing in cleaner aviation technologies and promoting sustainable tourism to balance environmental concerns with economic and social needs..
